Flights have been grounded at Melbourne Airport as fog sweeps over the city.

Arrival and departure times may be impacted. Travellers have been urged to check their flight details.

“Fog is affecting operations at Melbourne Airport this morning,” Melbourne Airport said in a Tweet.

Low visibility caused by fog affects airport operations as “aircraft movements need to be reduced on runways to ensure to an additional safety buffer is provided to separate aircraft,” according to Melbourne Airport.

“This reduces the number of aircraft that can arrive and depart.”
