It’s hoped the Defence Force will have an update this morning on the 36 personnel injured in the crash involving two of their vehicles near Lismore yesterday.

In an incredible turn of events, Sydney Morning Herald chief photographer Nick Moir was among the first to come across the crash.

“I actually stopped, got out my long lens to have a look, and it was like, ‘Holy crap! There’s guys all up on the top’,” he told A Current Affair last night.

“[I] took a couple of shots but then, I’m also an RFS member, so I got out and started going up to see what was going on.”
