Five people are dead after a horror car crash south-west of Sydney.

Police confirmed the fatalities after they were called to a single-vehicle crash at Buxton, about 40 kilometres north-west of Wollongong, about 8pm.

A spokesperson said one person survived the East Parade crash. There was no information about the survivor’s condition.

A medical team was flown in by helicopter to treat the victims, firefighters said.

Fire and Rescue NSW said there were “numerous casualties”.
