A fisherman has been found dead after he failed to return from a trip in South Australia’s Eyre Peninsula.

The 77-year-old was last seen launching from the Anxious Bay boat ramp in Elliston.

He was believed to have been checking cray pots but, when he failed to return, locals alerted police about 1.15pm yesterday.

Officers, with the help of community members, began searching the area for the man.

He was eventually found dead in the water.

Police are preparing a report for the State Coroner.
