It’s understood an unoccupied home became completely engulfed by flames just before 5am today on Robertson Street in Merrylands.

Fire and Rescue NSW (FRNSW) deployed a total of 22 firefighters and six trucks to the scene, where they worked for over an hour to bring the blaze under control.

The firefighter suffered minor burns and was treated at the scene.

He has now resumed duties. 

The blaze is completely extinguished, with the cause of the fire now under investigation.
