A shocking picture from the cockfight shootout shows multiple people cowering in fear on the ground following the deadly shooting

An infamous cartel boss has been killed by Mexican police just days after the organised gang shot dead multiple people in a cockfight bloodbath.

Jose ‘El Chabelo’ Isabel was the boss of the Sinaloa Cartel in the city of Manzanillo which is also the home of Mexico’s busiest port.

The New York Post reported that Isabel and an unnamed accomplice have been gunned down by Mexican police.

Isabel was already wanted by the authorities on a homicide warrant before the fatal encounter.

This comes after the cartel carried out a mass shooting at a cockfight arena in the Las Parotas neighborhood of Manzanillo which left two people dead.

That gives Colima, which is smaller than Delaware and has a population of just 731,391, a harrowing murder rate of 105 per 100,000 residents.

This is five times higher than the national average in Mexico.

The Sinaloa cartel grew from a small crime syndicate in the 1980s into the one of the world’s most powerful and violent drug trafficking gangs.

It first focused on smuggling marijuana into the USA before, under the leadership of Joaquín ‘El Chapo’ Guzmán, it diversified into harder drugs such as cocaine, methamphetamine and heroin.

This only solidified the gang’s position as the most dominant drug cartel in Mexico.
