A father was forced to fight off intruders with a chair after they broke into his home in Brisbane’s south-east overnight.

The man suffered cuts, bruises, and possible ligament damage while protecting his family inside their Morningside home about 2.40am.

The group threatened him and demanded his keys before the altercation.

Police believe the group fled the scene in a black sedan stolen from a Cannon Hill address yesterday.

9News understands that the group was behind a number of other burglaries and car thefts overnight.

Alex Hamze didn’t realise he was the victim of theft until he received a phone call from the police this morning.

“I got a call from the police saying they’d located my wife’s wallet,” he said.

“I saw the car door a little bit open and was like yep, they broke in and took the wallet. I’m pretty angry about that.”

Police said another burglary was reported at a Bulimba address just after 11pm, when a person entered a home and stole items before leaving the scene in a vehicle.

Detectives are investigating the incident and urge anyone with information or relevant footage to come forward.
