The driver of the allegedly stolen car fled the scene on foot.

A nearby resident helped the family get out of the partially crushed car.

“I grabbed the top corner of his door and put my foot on the base, and just ripped the top half of the door open so he could get out,” neighbour Ian Gosland said.

“I just thought if there is a family they might need help.”

The driver and one of his children were taken to the Princess Alexandra Hospital for treatment for minor abdominal and facial injuries.

They have both since left the hospital and returned home.

Police seized the allegedly stolen car, and are continuing to search for the driver.
