EXCLUSIVE: The devastated grandson of Valerie Paterson, a 70-year-old grandmother who was stabbed in the face, neck and chest during a frenzied attack, has spoken out to 9News.

Speaking outside hospital, Bailey Paterson described his grandmother as a strong person.

“She’s always there for people, she’s opened her home up to people … if they need a place to stay, for this to happen … I can’t even describe it, it’s ridiculous,” he said.

“I am still trying to process it and put it all into words. It sucks. You hear about it on the news all the time then for it to happen to you, it’s just mind blowing to think about.”

Police and paramedics were called to a unit in Logan, near Brisbane, just after midnight.

The 70 year-old was taken to the PA Hospital with life-threatening injuries.

Police arrested a 28 year-old who 9News understands regularly stays at the address.
