Two pilots have died in a horror helicopter collision in Western Australia’s Kimberley region.
The helicopters were reportedly mustering cattle when they collided shortly after take-off near Mount Anderson Station in Camballin about 6.20am (AWST) today.
Police said both pilots – a 29-year-old man and a 30-year-old man – died at the scene.
The pilots were the sole occupants of the choppers.
Mount Anderson Station is an Indigenous owned-cattle station run by the Kimberley Agriculture and Pastoral Company.
The company’s director told 9News the pilots were experienced and had worked with them for a number of years.
The Australian Transport Safety Bureau has been notified and an investigation into the incident is under way.
The ATSB will examine the wreckage, speak to witnesses and examine if weather conditions played a role in the crash.
They added it was an extremely tragic event and they are in shock.
A report will be prepared for the coroner.
