EXCLUSIVE:

A father who brutalised his children for years with prolonged beatings and humiliating abuse has been forced to listen to a judge read aloud his sickening catalogue of crimes.

The man, who cannot be named, stared straight ahead for more than two hours as his eldest daughter sat about 5m away, occasionally turning to look at her long-time tormenter.

‘MS’ waged a campaign of domestic terror in which he routinely whipped his children with an electrical cord, called two of his daughters ‘fat’, and repeatedly hit one young son with a spanner.

On Wednesday afternoon, he left Downing Centre District Court in handcuffs after being sentenced to four years in jail.

The middle-aged repairman, who conceded he had a ‘complete inability to parent’,  will serve at least two years behind bars.

His daughter, who MS had glared at several times on Tuesday during sentencing submissions, did not stay to watch him being taken away.

Judge Timothy Gartelmann said MS had abused the trust of his children, some of whom were so young as to be extremely vulnerable to his vicious outbursts.

‘He did it in a home where they should have been safe and secure,’ Judge Gartelmann said.

‘In some instances it appears a misguided approach to discipline. In other instances it appears he did it to maintain control, authority and respect.’

North African-born MS pleaded guilty to 26 offences: nine charges of assault occasioning actual bodily harm, 15 of common assault and two of intimidation.

MS and his Islamic convert wife CS raised their children in a household, where the smallest act of naughtiness or disobedience was met with extreme violence.

Any information which might identify the children, including their parents’ names and the exact size of the family, cannot be published.

The large family lived in squalor at a series of rental addresses across Sydney, where the children – aged from toddlers to teens – were subjected to terrible ordeals.

The father’s iron fist saw him lash out with his favourite weapon – a doubled over electrical cord – whenever his children fell short on his slave-like roster of chores.

A statement of facts tendered in court and obtained by Daily Mail Australia outlined the conditions the children faced at home.

‘MS and CS created a controlling and disciplined household environment for their children who followed strict Muslim religious beliefs,’ the statement said

‘The children were required to wear clothing that covered their full body. The female children were not allowed to cut their hair unless MS approved of it.

‘They were not to have short hair, wear trousers and had to be fully covered from their collar bone to their knees with clothing.

‘The male children were required to wear long pants and were prohibited from wearing shorts.’

The children were homeschooled by their parents and the two oldest daughters assisted the younger ones with their work.

They attended the mosque for prayer and religious education but weren’t allowed to socialise with friends, visit public places such as shops or play sport.

The children ‘had little to no contact with anyone outside their household members’, according to the statement of facts, and faced a daily roster of chores.

Those tasks included cooking meals, cleaning, vacuuming, mopping, washing clothes, feeding animals and bathing their younger siblings.

‘Throughout the victims’ lives, they were each the subject of physical abuse and mistreatment at the hands of MS and CS,’ the statement of facts said.

‘These acts were frequent and often occurred in view of the other victims.’

MS’s earliest recorded offence occurred after he came home from the markets with mangoes and asked his daughters to cut up the fruit before he went outside to mow the lawn.

CS heard one of the primary school-aged girls tell her sisters how much she hated men and how she would never have one in her adult life because ‘all men take advantage of women’ and don’t look after their children.

When MS returned to the house, CS told him what their daughter had said and he reacted with fury.

MS made the daughter stand against a wall with her back towards him and began whipping her back, legs and arms with an electrical cord.

As the girl screamed and begged her father to stop he said: ‘So you hate all men? I am the only man you know, so you hate me?’

‘I’m the one who provides your house and your clothes and you don’t even have a little respect,’ he went on. ‘You will be married, and you will have children.’

The next day when CS’s parents visited the house, the daughter who had been whipped was wearing a short-sleeved dress and bruises were visible on her upper arms.

MS told her: ‘I don’t know what you think you are dong, trying to show your grandparents your whip marks and get me in trouble.’

A pre-teen daughter was warned by MS not to go downstairs while a male friend of her father was staying at the house.

‘In the Islamic religion, females are allowed to speak with males, however they need to cover up and wear a scarf,’ the statement of facts said.

‘During the afternoon, [the daughter] walked downstairs to tell her siblings to come inside from the backyard.

‘At the time she was not wearing a scarf because the male friend was inside his bedroom.’

MS saw what his daughter had done, told her to turn around and as she pleaded ‘please don’t whip me, I won’t do it again’, whipped her back and buttocks.

CS overheard another daughter once telling her siblings she was going to be rude to her parents until they kicked her out.

When CS told MS what had happened he came at the girl with an electrical cord and said, ‘turn around, I am going to beat you’. He then whipped the girl’s back.

A son who was expected to memorise two pages of the Koran every day came home from the mosque having not learnt his lines.

MS pulled out an electrical cord and whipped the boy, telling him: ‘You’re wasting my money, you’re wasting my time, you’re wasting my life, wasting the teacher’s time.’

When a pre-teen daughter was caught not wearing shoes, MS chased her inside the house and hit her on the back of the head with a broom.

When a son of pre-school age did not want to eat his vegetables, MS slapped him about the face, leaving him with a swollen lip and bleeding from the mouth.

One email to police read, 'Hi, hope ur well. I have been abused my whole life and I have had enough of it. But I don¿t want the people that have done it to me to go to jail. Even though what they have done to me I will never be the same'

Four years later, while MS was flogging the same son with an electrical cord the child pleaded to go to the toilet.

According to the statement of facts, MS told the boy ‘that he could stay there and pee his pants and that he would take photos of it to show him when he was an adult’.

Another son who broke the glass in a bedroom door was punished by MS hitting his hands with a spanner. MS then whipped one of the boy’s older brothers.

During a backyard barbecue, a son who was about a year old threw a metal spoon at his grandmother. MS responded by slapping the boy to the face for approximately 10 minutes while he refused to apologise.

‘[The boy’s] mouth was bleeding and as MS continued to hit him blood went everywhere,’ the statement of facts said.

‘Both of CS’s grandparents were watching. They said to [the boy], ‘Just say sorry darl’.’

No reason was offered in the statement of facts for why another boy was forced to face a wall to be whipped all over his body.

On that occasion MS said: ‘If you don’t move, I won’t hit you as much. If you move, I will just hit you more.’

A daughter who left a dustpan full of rubbish she had swept up in her bedroom was flogged with an electrical cord hen MS returned from the mosque.

MS called the same girl ‘fat’ and bit her on the arm during dinner one night.

Another day when MS and CS came home to find four of their young daughters had not cleaned their rooms, he took turns whipping them all.

The children’s torment only ended after two of the older sisters secretly contacted police anonymously pleading for help, according to the statement of facts.

Since his arrest in September 2022, MS had not been allowed any contact with his children, who were taken from the family home and are protected by apprehended violence orders.

When MS was released on bail in November 2022 after 57 days on remand, he had been prevented from seeing his wife and their marriage broke down.

Judge Gartelmann said MS had spent the past two years under house arrest and had saved his children from having to give evidence by admitting his crimes.

‘He has accepted responsibility for his actions and acknowledged their consequences,’ Judge Gartelmann found.

CS pleaded guilty eight counts of common assault, two of assault occasioning bodily harm, and three of concealing an indictable offence. In February she was sentenced to a seven-month intensive correction order.

MS will be eligible for parole on October 21, 2026.
