Eurythmics’ Dave Stewart joins daughter in ‘American Idol’ audition

We won’t lie to you, it was emotional.

Eurythmics member Dave Stewart caused a stir on Sunday’s “American Idol” episode when he provided backup music for his daughter Kaya, who was auditioning for the popular singing competition.

“The backup musician is who,” quipped judge Lionel Richie as Stewart walked into the audition room.

Katy Perry looked on at Stewart’s entrance with a mixture of shock and confusion before realizing who it was after the musician introduced himself simply as “Dave.”

“Oh my god, blast from the past,” squealed Perry.

Stewart then revealed what it was like growing up with a famous dad who was on the road touring.

“Music has been a part of my life since before I was even born,” said the younger Stewart. “My dad was in a group called the Eurythmics when I was born my dad was on tour and I was going to shows when I was still in my mom’s tummy.

“The musician lifestyle has just been a part of my life,” continued Stewart. “There was never a question of what I wanted to do with my life. That was always going to be what I was going to do.”

The father-daughter duo then played a brand-new song called "The Tattoo" which they wrote together and left the judges speechless.

Perry then grilled the 22-year-old about why she chose to appear on “American Idol.”

“With all the different opportunities and the connections and stuff how did you even land at ‘American Idol’?” questioned the “California Gurls” singer. “How is this the right choice?”

Stewart then said that she chose “Idol” because it was a chance for her to sing her own music.

"This much more difficult than being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame," said the older Stewart referencing his group's 2022 induction.

“It is a great feeling this is now the creative destination for artists,” gushed Richie.

“Wow,” screamed Perry, who, alongside Ritchie and Luke Bryan, gave the duo a standing ovation.

“This much more difficult than being inducted into the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame,” said the older Stewart, referencing his group’s 2022 induction.

It was then the three judges rendered their decision.

“First of all, I’m gonna tell you the truth because we are all about truth,” said Ritchie. “First of all for the songwriting part and coming here, I give you so much props.

“But in the midst of all of this, you slayed it. I love the tone of your voice, you’re really an artist,” he continued.

The up-and-coming artist then received a resounding “yes” from all three judges, which sent her right into the second round of the competition.
