ESPN’s Karl Ravech blows clutch home run call during College World Series: ‘My bad’

ESPN’s Karl Ravech blew a clutch Oral Roberts home run call during the team’s win over TCU in Game 1 of the College World Series on Friday.

It all started when Blaze Brothers came to the plate for Oral Roberts with one out and two runners on in the top of the ninth inning.

Brothers hit a towering drive to left field on an 0-1 fastball, which Ravech initially narrated without a hiccup.

“This one is hammered to left field,” Ravech said as the ball flew toward the left field lawn. “Did he do it? Yes sir!”

But the call went downhill from there.

“Walk off home run; the nine hitter, Blaze Brothers, and Oral Roberts rallies and wins it,” Ravech said, not realizing it was the top of the ninth inning.

To Ravech’s credit, he quickly caught himself but may have dug an even deeper hole when he bungled which team was up to bat.

“TCU, I should say, in a walk-off…Top-half, that’s right, not bottom…,” Ravech said as he recognized his mistake. “Three-run shot puts them on top after it felt like they were down and out. 6-5, Blaze Brothers. How about Oral Roberts?”

Ravech would later own up to his gaffe on Twitter.

“It was, all on me,” he wrote. “Come back and do it again tomorrow. My bad.”

After their thrilling comeback, Oral Roberts, appearing in their first College World Series since 1978, would hold on to beat TCU 6-5.

The Golden Eagles will play the Florida Gators on Sunday and need to win two more games to punch their ticket to the final of the College World Series.
