Why Are Fans Against Shopping At SHEIN?

According to Ethically Dressed, there are multiple reasons to avoid shopping at SHEIN. The fast fashion brand was launched in 2008 and started thriving during the COVID-19 pandemic and started going viral on TikTok for their cheap prices. As Ethically Dressed points out, these prices are “unrealistically low” and only achieved by using low-quality synthetic fabrics like polyester and nylon, which can decades to decompose.
According to a November 2021 report from Public Eye, most of the workers at SHEIN factories work 75 hours per week, six days a week. Interviewed workers from these small, unregulated factories reportedly did not get paid overtime. They are, however, reportedly paid per item, which is why SHEIN is able to turn out so many clothes for a low price.
Many fans expressed concern about animal cruelty. According to Good On You, the brand uses wool, down, exotic animal hair, decorative feathers, and silk. It is also not transparent about its supply chain and doesn’t state where it receives these items from, which has many concerned about animal cruelty.
Does Emily Faye Miller Know About SHEIN’s Harmful Practices?

It’s hard to say just how informed the British model is about SHEIN’s business practices. Although this is definitely a big career opportunity for her, it does make one wonder how many fans she might lose in the process of partnering with the brand.
