Just after 2.30pm (4.30pm AEDT), the Department of Fire and Emergency Services (DFES) told residents in parts of Ellendale, Minnenooka and Walkaway it is too late to leave.

“Fire has impacted evacuation routes and leaving now will put your life in danger,” the alert said.

The bushfire is moving in a south-easterly direction and it is not contained.

The cause of the fire has not been determined and the arson squad is investigating.

Residents in surrounding suburbs have been asked to monitor conditions.
