Elliot Page just made his Pride Month celebration extra special — by going Instagram official with his new partner.
The Umbrella Academy star revealed his romance with comedian Julia Shiplett, who currently appears in the Prime Video series Overcompensating, in a sweet post shared to Instagram on June 28.
In the cozy pic, Page beams as he leans over Shiplett’s shoulder while she captures a selfie of the two standing on a rainbow-painted crosswalk. He kept the caption simple — just a rainbow emoji and double-heart emoji — letting the image do the talking.
Just hours earlier, Shiplett posted her own tribute to the couple on Instagram Stories, sharing a steamy shot of the shirtless Oscar-nominated actor lounging in a hot spring. She added a cheeky “Happy prideee” along with a water droplet and exhaling emoji.
Page, 38, has been open about his relationships and queer identity since coming out as transgender in 2020. In his 2023 memoir Pageboy, he reflected on past romances with fellow actors Kate Mara and Olivia Thirlby, as well as a hidden relationship with an unnamed celebrity.
“My partner was more closeted than me for a change,” he wrote. “We were together for almost two years, and even some of my closest friends were not aware I was in a relationship. Her parents did not know.”
The Juno actor — who was married to dancer Emma Portner from 2018 to 2021 — said the secrecy eventually took a toll.
“It was not a sustainable relationship, just like when I had kept people hidden,” he shared. “People didn’t ‘think she was queer,’ but they definitely assumed I was, and I don’t think she could handle the shame. Ultimately, she had to do what was best for her, and unfortunately it resulted in my heart being shattered.”
Thankfully, Page seems to be in a much better place now. Speaking to the Los Angeles Times in June 2023, he reflected on the joy he’s found post-transition.
“I’m having the most fun I’ve ever had dating,” he said. “Interacting with people feels so much easier and more connected, because I’m not feeling lost in myself and not seen in the right way.”
