An elderly woman has been hit by a truck in Sydney's west while trying to cross the road using a mobility scooter this morning.

The woman, believed to be in her 70s, was struck by a truck on Fairford Road, in Guildford West at 10:50am.

She was treated by New South Wales paramedics before being taken to Westmead Hospital in a serious but stable condition.

The truck driver was taken to hospital for mandatory testing. 

Police said they are now investigating how the crash happened.
