An 86-year-old man was charged with attempted murder after allegedly strangling a 33-year-old woman

An elderly man has been charged with attempted murder for allegedly trying to strangle a woman in a domestic violence incident.

The man, 86, is accused of trying to strangle the 33-year-old woman at a home in the Ipswich suburb of Eastern Heights, west of Brisbane, at about 6.30pm on Monday.

A neighbour reportedly heard a disturbance at the home and called the police. 

The woman suffered no visible injuries and is known to the man.

Queensland Police charged the man with attempted murder (domestic violence offence).

He is due to appear at Ipswich Magistrates Court on Tuesday.
