The RSPCA is investigating a boat moored on the Gold Coast with eight German shepherds crammed on board.

The boat, which appears to have run aground at the Spit at Main Beach, has attracted the ire of nearby boaties.

There were five dogs on board when approached by 9News, with another three dogs on shore at the time.

A woman who claims to own the dogs refused to answer questions.

Gold Coast City Council is also investigating.
