A magnitude 3.1 earthquake has been recorded in Sydney’s south west.

Geoscience Australia recorded the earthquake had struck near Appin, just south of Campbelltown, about 2pm on Sunday.

The earthquake had a depth of 3km and was felt by at least 14 residents across the region, according to Geoscience Australia.

Residents in Douglas Park, near Appin, took to social media to share how they felt the tremors.

‘Our whole house shook and there was a huge bang like an explosion’, one resident posted.

Another resident said the ‘shuddering lasted a lot longer than all the others we’ve felt before’.

Appin store owners told NewsCorp Australia there wasn’t much damage to the town.

‘There’s been no damage we’ve seen,’ one local business owner said, sharing they ‘hadn’t felt’ a single shudder.

‘First we’ve heard of it,’ another added.

‘We didn’t feel a thing.’
