Victoria’s High Country has been struck by a magnitude 4.1 earthquake early today, with warnings of minor damage.

More than 1400 “felt reports” for the tremor near Woods Point, about 180km northeast of Melbourne, at 3.48am were recorded by GeoScience Australia.

VicEmergency warned that warned minor damage may have occurred.

“This earthquake has been felt in Wangaratta, Benalla, South Morang, Healesville, Yarra Junction and Dargo,” it said in an alert message on X.

Residents are urged to avoid damaged buildings, roadways, bridges, fallen trees and powerlines.

It was the largest earthquake in Victoria’s alpine region since a magnitude 4.7 tremor in June 2023, the Seismology Research Centre said.

This is a developing story … More to come.
