First national exit poll results were revealed by CNN after 5pm ET in the US, which found 72 per cent of Americans aren’t satisfied with the direction of the government.

Following four years of the Biden-Harris administration, the poll survey found only 7 per cent of voters are “enthusiastic” about the state of the US and only 19 per cent are “satisfied”.

The exit polls are a set of surveys asked to voters leaving polling stations about their political opinions and why they voted a certain way in the election.

Data from these polls which can characterise the direction an election is going are not usually reported until the polls are closed.

A national exit poll is conducted in the US on election day, while exit polls are also held in key states such as Arizona, Florida, Michigan and Nevada.
