A man has escaped a car wreckage with minor injuries after a horror crash at a roundabout in Adelaide this morning.

Emergency services were called to Britannia Roundabout about 2am after a Toyota station wagon lost control and crashed into a pedestrian island.

The car became airborne and smashed into a large gum tree at the centre of the roundabout, causing the car to flip and roll.

The 28-year-old male driver managed to free himself from the wreckage.

He was taken to hospital for treatment of minor injuries and will undergo mandatory testing.

The roundabout was closed for more than two hours while emergency services cleared the scene.

All roads have since reopened.
