A driver has allegedly blown five times the legal blood alcohol limit after he was pulled over in northern Victoria.

Police pulled over a Lexus on the Hume Highway in Longwood East after they allegedly spotted it going 178km/hr in a 110km/hr zone at about 2pm yesterday afternoon.

The driver then blew 0.284 on a breath test, police claim.

A potentially fatal blood alcohol content level is 0.4.

The 42-year-old Geelong man was also unlicensed, police said.

His car was impounded for 30 days and he was issued an immediate driving ban.

It’s expected he will be summoned to appear before court at a later date.
