A dog that ran on the loose on a Melbourne freeway has been plucked to safety thanks to some quick-thinking good Samaritans.

The dog was captured in dashcam footage running on Melbourne’s Citylink roadway, just metres from cars travelling 80km/h.

Two motorbike riders worked together to corner the pup, before picking it up and carrying it to safety.

”It’s a bit unusual for that time of day in that spot dog in the middle of the freeway, it’s not something you expect to see,” one of the motorbike riders told 9News.

He handed the dog to a driver, who quickly stopped. It’s believed he took the dog to a nearby vet.
