Prime Minister Anthony Albanese announced applications for the Australian Government Disaster Recovery Payment and Disaster Recovery Allowance will open at 2pm (AEST) for those directly impacted by the devastating floods.

A one-off payment of $1000 per eligible adult and $400 per eligible child will be available for those who have suffered a serious injury or have a severely damaged or destroyed home as a result of the flooding.

Meanwhile a disaster recovery allowance will provide up to 13 weeks of federal income support to assist eligible employees or sole trades who experience a loss of income as a result of the floods.

The funding is open for people who live and work in the Cairns, Cassowary Coast, Cook, Douglas, Hope Vale, Mareeba, Tablelands, Wujal Wujal and Yarrabah local government areas.
