Did ‘Succession’ Just Confirm Shiv is Pregnant?

Succession Season 4 Episode 4 “Honeymoon States” deals with the ugly immediate aftermath of Logan Roy’s (Brian Cox) death. After exquisitely exploring the emotional whiplash of processing death last week, the HBO hit is now letting its ultra-ambitious characters openly jockey for power. Tom Wambsgans (Matthew MacFadyen) is ruthlessly dressed down by Logan’s board in a butler’s pantry, Marcia (Hiam Abbass) humiliates Kerry (Zoe Winters), and Shiv (Sarah Snook) finds herself elbowed out of “official” leadership by Kendall (Jeremy Strong) and Roman (Kieran Culkin). There’s much ado about an undated memo where Logan might have left everything to Kendall, or he might not have. Oh, and Connor (Alan Ruck) buys his father’s townhouse from Marcia. But one of the biggest developments might have occurred without eagle-eyed viewers noticing at all. Shiv appears to be pregnant.

In the cold open of Succession Season 4 Episode 4 on HBO we see the three main Roy heirs — Kendall, Roman, and Shiv — reeling from their loss the next morning. Shiv’s grief is interrupted by a phone call however and it sounds like she is pregnant.

So is Shiv Roy pregnant with Tom Wambsgans’s baby? Is she simply trying to get pregnant? Were there clues about Shiv’s pregnancy in Season 3? And did she potentially lose her baby with that nasty fall at Logan’s townhouse towards the end of this week’s episode?

Here’s everything we know about Shiv’s pregnancy on Succession

Is Shiv Pregnant on Succession on HBO?

It certainly seems that way! While laying in bed the morning after her father’s death, Shiv receives a phone call from a Dr. Sharon Hasford. The doctor is immediately contrite about calling Shiv — obviously because she saw her famous patient make a statement on her media mogul dad’s death on TV the day before — but says she wanted to discuss Shiv’s “results.”

“I won’t draw it out. It’s a good result,” Dr. Hasford says before referencing something medical that I, an English major, could not catch, but it sounded like something to do with amniotic fluid and blood tests. She then says, “Everything looks healthy. And you’re still well? No spotting? No bleeding?”

And that’s where it’s very obvious that Shiv is indeed pregnant. To hammer the point home, Dr. Hasford talks about making an appointment for Shiv’s “20 week scan.”

The thing is some Succession fans have been speculating that Shiv has been pregnant since the end of Season 3! We watched as she and Tom discussed wanting to try to have a baby before he was potentially sent to prison for his involvement in the cruises scandal. However, Shiv also is seen toasting with water at her mother’s wedding, which is a major faux pas unless you are pregnant. Mashable has more on these fan theories, but they seem to be true: Shiv is pregnant.
