Who Doesn't Love a Good Dumpster Fire Every Now and Then?

If Joe Biden was trying to stomp on Kamala Harris’ big moment on the Ellipse in Washington, D.C., all I have to say is “Mission Accomplished.”

Nobody serious is talking about Kamala’s big moment, which I labeled “meh” earlier today because Joe Biden stole the spotlight as, perhaps, he intended to.

Normally you wouldn’t expect a sitting president to stomp on his “successor” at a key moment in a tight campaign, but Joe Biden did precisely that. Not only did he schedule a Zoom call as counterprogramming to Kamala’s event, he dropped a stinking pile of s**t on the sidewalk like a homeless drug addict in San Francisco taking a dump outside a fancy French restaurant.

The result? Nobody cares a whit about Kamala’s speech. It is small beer compared to the juicy controversy, even if most media outlets outside CBS of all people trying to bury it. Duane wrote an excellent piece on the speech and you should definitely read it.

As the rest of the media scrambled to cover the whole incident up, including ignoring the whole episode at Pravda Radio NPR, Tony Dokoupil eviscerated Walz with the skill of a surgeon trying to excise a cancer.

Scott Jennings, as usual, was alone on CNN fighting off the liberals who were desperate to stanch the bleeding.

All of which is to say that Kamala Harris’ message was stomped on and smeared across the sidewalk like a cockroach trying to skitter away from a dumpster that was on fire.

I am mixing too many metaphors, but you get the idea. I am doing my 2nd-rate Tom Friedman impression.

Kamala’s message wasn’t one calculated to sell well anyway, because it was equal parts HATE and UNITY, which really don’t mix well. She opened with a broadside against Donald Trump and by implication his supporters, and then moved on to her vague hand waiving about turning the page and bringing the country back together again.

What I heard was “once we get rid of those garbage people” the left can dominate the country and we will all live in peace and harmony.

It was a variation of the leftists’ claim that prosperity will follow once the Kulaks are destroyed.

Kamala’s speech was already a Heil Mary, and Biden’s (non?)gaffe was a defenseman’s knocking the ball away from a receiver in the end zone. (More Tom Friedman style metaphors). It was unlikely to work, but at least was intended to dominate a news cycle and provide yet another opportunity for a “reset” to her campaign.

Well, it didn’t work. Joe Biden ensured it wouldn’t, intentionally or not. I don’t know that he mortally wounded her already flailing campaign, but it will surely leave a deep wound.
