Now it’s Melikuziev’s eye getting checked

Both fighters could be facing visibility issues

Dibombe goes down

Not sure if he saw that coming. Eye is an issue, but he’s not giving up

King Ryan gets his crown

Ryan Garcia is reporteldy wearing a $1 million crown into the ring. Not sure if it really is worth that much or how much he put down for the item.

Another pre-fight view of Ryan Garcia

He could be sitting there for awhile because still ahve another fighter after Melikuziev-Dibombe, which is in the fourth.

On the other hand, Dibombe’s eye injury could lead to an abrupt end in this one.

Boxers Edgar Berlanga and Andre Berto just took their seats

Berlanga is flanked by two large bodyguards, making his presence here all the more conspicuous.

Berto is wearing a black hooded sweatshirt and hanging out with his friends. Were this not a boxing-savvy crowd, the last real boxer to face Floyd Mayweather Jr. in a real boxing match would have gone unrecognized.

Dibombe is having his eye examined

Action is back in the seccond, but ref is keeping his eye on Dibombe’s

Less violence, more violins

Garcia is enjoying some classical music before tonight’s bout. Considering everything he’s done recently, this isn’t ranking very high on the weirdness scale.

Garcia is remaining active on social media before the fight

Surprise! Ryan Garcia posted some stuff on social media.

This is his latest from Instagram:

“All I ask is that you pray for me today

“Pray to the Lord for my safety and victory

“All prayer warriors I love you let’s do this”

He posted this on Twitter earlier in the day

Now it’s time for Melikuziev-Dibombe

Up next, for the WBO Intercontinental Super Lightweight title, we have Bektemir Melikuziev (13-1) out of Uzbekistan and Pierre Dibombe (22-0-1) from Nantes, France

The 28-year-old Melikuziev won silver at the Rio games in 2016 at middleweight. He also won two golds at the Asian Games in 2015 and 2017.

And the decision goes to?

DAVID JIMENEZ with the upset. Unanimous decision. Great finish from Jimenez giving Ramirez his first loss.

Jimenez turns up the heat at the end

Ramirez is starting to slow down. Jimenez just found a new gear. Much more active in these alter rounds. Currently in the 12th.

If you look at Charles Conwell’s trunks, you can see a patch honoring Patrick Day.

As I mentioned in an earlier post, Conwell knocked out Day in 2019. Day would ultimately pass away from a traumatic brain days later.

Fans starting to file in here at Barclays Center

Lower bowl is filling up. I’d say it’s about 50-percent capacity right now. Probably an hour and a half until the main event gets going.

The back of Ryan Garcia’s shirt isn’t any better

The back of Garcia’s shirt reads ‘RIP Devin Haney 1999-2024.’

There was a time, a few fights ago, that Garcia lectured Gervonta Davis about his professionalism.

Looked like a knockdown, but…

… referee Benjy Esteves is calling it a slip by Jimenez. Looked like a good punch by Ramirez in real time.

Things are getting even in the seventh. Ramirez is doing some good work against the ropes as Jiminez is calling for Esteves to give a warning about rabbit punches.

John Ramirez (13-0) and David Jimenez (15-1) are now in round 4

This bout is for the WBA Interim Super Flyweight Title.

Ramirez has his hands full right now.

Both Garcia and Haney are in the building

The fighters were just shown on the big screen. Garcia’s shirt reads “murder on my mind”

And that’s all she wrote.

Ref stops it in the sixth. Conwell was just too much. Needs to find better opponents now.

Conwell gets Gallimore up against the ropes

Undefeated super welterweight is dominating in the fifth here. Several big lefts in succession. Gallimore is bleeding from his nose, mouth and a bit from bis brow.

Many will remember the undefeated Conwell from the Patrick Day tragedy

It was October 12, 2019 when Conwell knocked out Day, who would ultimately pass away from a traumatic brain injury on October 16.

Conwell penned an emotional letter afterwards, writing:

“I am so mixed with emotion because I feel responsible, I feel like I let him down. That pain I will live with the rest of my life, but my faith remains strong because God is in this room with us, because Patrick would want that. Because he has that. One of a kind.”

About those ticket sales…

… The upper bowl at Barclays Center is open tonight, so they have about 16,000 seats to fill. Obviously it’s still early, but they have a ways to go here. Lower bowl is mostly empty, while the upper seats (often the “real” fans) are larger in number.

A look at the fight card:

PPV Broadcast is set to start with Charles Conwell (18-0) against Nathaniel Gallimore (22-7-1) at super welterweight

Seated on media row at Barclays Center. The Great Jim Lampley is in the building, as is Gerry Cooney, Mail Sport’s Daniel Matthew and myself.

Garcia cleared to fight

The good news is that Ryan Garcia has reportedly passed a mental health evaluation.

Garcia was accused of drinking alcohol and smoking marijuana, causing the New York commission to travel to his training camp to test him for mental health reasons.

However, he passed the evaluation, and is clear to fight Haney – even if the contest will not be a title fight because Garcia came in overweight.

Garcia’s chaotic preparation

It’s certainly been a troubling build up to the fight for Garcia.

For more on his bizarre two-month public meltdown heading into tonight, check out our piece from earlier today…
