Fire crews are battling a large blaze that has engulfed multiple homes on Russell Island, in Brisbane’s south-east.

Fire and Rescue Service crews are on scene after the fire broke out at a home on Todman Street about 6am, sending plumes of thick smoke billowing into the sky.

A Queensland Fire and Emergency Services spokesperson told 9news.com.au that at least one house is completely destroyed.

“The situation as of 7.15am – is that three houses were fully engulfed in fire with one house destroyed,” the spokesperson said.

“It’s a developing situation.”

It’s not yet clear if there is anyone unaccounted for.

Queensland paramedics are also on scene and treating several people.
