Two parents and four children were onboard a boat that had broken down on Kinchant Dam west of Mackay about 11.15am yesterday.

The man and his young daughter fell overboard.

All emergency services, including police, paramedics, firefighters, SES, RACQ Rescue and volunteers, rushed to the scene.

The girl was located and taken to hospital without any injuries, while the mother and three remaining children were taken from the boat safely to shore.

The search started back up again about 7am today with water police also on scene conducting assessments, a Queensland Police spokesperson said.

Kinchant Dam has been shut for recreational use as emergency services search for the missing man.
