DeSantis in Eagle Pass, Texas to unveil border plan

Governor Ron DeSantis was in Eagle Pass, Texas to see the Biden border crisis up close and personal. This is his first trip to the southern border since he declared his candidacy for president.

Earlier this month, DeSantis came to the southern border to recieve briefings and toured incomplete parts of the border wall. Last week he announced a nationwide coalition of 90 sheriffs who are joining together to protect communities against the effects of the Biden border crisis. In Eagle Pass Monday he will unveil his border policy. It is the first policy roll-out since he became a candidate.

Sunday the campaign released a video titled “No Excuses” which delivers a message that DeSantis will get the border wall done.

“We will secure the border. We will stop the cartels. We will build the wall. We will stop the invasion. NO EXCUSES. @RonDeSantis will get it done,” the DeSantis War Room tweeted alongside the video.

In New Hampshire last month, DeSantis delivered the same message.

“We will finally after years and years of discussions and Republicans complaining about it, we will finally be the administration to bring this border issue to a conclusion. We are going to shut the border down, we are going to build the border wall.”

The new ad doesn’t say Trump’s name but it does note that the wall has not been finished. It does criticize Biden’s lack of attention to the southern border. It would be interesting to see what success DeSantis might have with the border wall construction, given his success in rebuilding after hurricanes, most notably the bridge that was destroyed and DeSantis made sure it was rebuilt and opened so quickly. That kind of determination and push at the border would be a welcome change.

DeSantis has some success to point to with legislation in Florida.

Combating illegal immigration is expected to be a top priority for DeSantis, who has made a number of anti-illegal immigration moves as governor of the Sunshine State. Earlier this year, he signed a sweeping anti-illegal immigration bill that mandates the use of E-Verify by employers, ups penalties for human and drug smuggling — and bars local jurisdictions from issuing IDs to illegal immigrants.

He sent about 50 illegal aliens to Martha’s Vineyard and he recently sent some to California. He is under daily attack by jealous Governor Newsom. Newsom really had a fit when DeSantis sent some illegal aliens to California. He threatened to have DeSantis charged with kidnapping. You can’t make this stuff up. DeSantis secured $24M in funding for a migrant relocation program. Perhaps he will send more to California.

DeSantis has been a friend to Texas, the largest red state. He sends help whenever Governor Abbott puts out the call to fellow governors for help in securing the border. DeSantis sends National Guard troops and other law enforcement plus equipment like drones. Texans won’t forget that.

Besides resuming the border wall construction, DeSantis promised to declare a national emergency and reinstate the Remain in Mexico policy that was effective during the previous administration.

I hope he offers some specifics in his plans. He will certainly be in a good location to present his plan.
