Democrats and Republicans Unite: Cheatle Is an Embarrassment

In legislator-speak, what we are seeing in the Congressional hearing on the failures of the Secret Service has produced something nearly unprecedented in the past few decades: “peace in the valley.”

It’s when opponents unite together on some issue or another. In this case, Republicans and Democrats are united: Secret Service Director Kimberly Cheatle is absolutely horrible both as a Director and as a witness before Congress is totally embarrassing and unacceptable.

As far as I can tell, 100% of the Congressmen think Cheatle must go, not just because the buck stops with her, but because she is stonewalling.

Cheatle has answered no questions of note. She claims to know nothing about what happened and needs to wait 60 days for the investigation to be complete.

60 days. Two months.

The general sense among the Representatives is incredulity. Even AOC was blown away by how ridiculous the 60-day deadline is, as did Ro Khanna.

There is essentially no daylight between Republicans and Democrats: Cheatle is clearly incapable of, at the very least, reassuring the American people that she is on top of the job but that she wasn’t in on some bizarre conspiracy. I still maintain that this is unlikely, but Cheatle sure looks like she is covering up something very big.

Democrats sound as outraged as Republicans at Cheatle’s obvious stonewalling. She refuses to answer questions because she needs a “full and complete report.”

60 Days. Sixty.

No answers for 60 days. She apparently knows nothing nine days after an assassination attempt. Not one damn thing. So we have to wait 60 days for her to know something that the American people are allowed to hear.

Every conspiracy theorist is feeling vindicated because this looks exactly as a coverup would. It looks bad. Very bad.

How could it not? There is more genuine information coming out online than from the person who is in charge of everything.

Congress has an oversight responsibility, and they are actually exercising it for once. The amount of political posturing is not zero–there is a bit of “gun control” talk, but Congress is taking this issue seriously in a bipartisan fashion.

Cheatle and, by extension, the Biden Administration is not. They look profoundly unserious and uncaring.

This hearing will fuel every conspiracy theory that could possibly occur in people’s fevered imaginations.

And I can’t blame a single person for thinking of and spreading them. The Secret Service is doing everything it can to fuel those conspiracy theories.
