The Aurora Australis, or southern lights, were visible in parts of south and eastern Australia last night on the first night of winter.

The Australian Space Weather Alert System issued an alert for the geomagnetic storm.

However, it may have been a one off for now. The BOM told sky watchers: “There is a possibility of further G3 strong geomagnetic conditions later today but they are likely to ease by the evening, reducing chances of repeat Aurora sightings tonight.”
