Olympic icon Dawn Fraser has been released from hospital on the Sunshine Coast, nine days after she suffered a fall.
The 87-year-old underwent hip replacement surgery and had treatment for her four broken ribs after tripping in the front yard of the Noosa home she shares with her daughter and grandson.
Her daughter, Dawn-Lorraine, confirmed her mother returned home today.
”The doctors agreed mum had made considerable progress since the hip operation and were happy for her [to] leave hospital for the comfort of my home,” she said.
“Mum will undergo physio and we’re so happy to see her back with us.
“Nine days ago we had some doubts about that – but she’s certainly shown how damn determined she is.”
Dawn-Lorraine said having her mum home just in time for Christmas was a blessing.
“Mum again wants to express her thanks to the doctors and medical staff who have looked after her so well over the past week,” she said.
“And a huge thanks also to so many people who have sent their best wishes for a speedy recovery.
“Mum now just needs to rest and recover.”
