Residents in Cromer in Sydney's northern beaches reported seeing a police chopper (pictured) flying overhead as well as officers in bulletproof vests on Saturday

Swarms of police officers in bulletproof vests have stormed a quiet Sydney suburb after reports of a self-harm incident. 

It’s understood a man shot himself at a home in Cromer, on Sydney’s Northern Beaches on Saturday morning. 

A police helicopter was also seen circling the scene.
