Police have established a crime scene after a man was found unresponsive in a burning house.
Emergency services were called to Grant Street in Blacktown, Sydney, after receiving reports of a fire at 4.05pm on Saturday.
The unidentified man, who is believed to be 76, was recovered from the premises by Fire and Rescue NSW crews.
NSW Ambulance paramedics attempted to revive the man but he died at the scene.
Officers attached Blacktown Police Area Command were called to control traffic in the area and the fire has since been extinguished.
Multiple police cars and firetrucks were seen assembled on the street outside the house as grieving loved ones spoke to officers.
Initial reports indicate 32 firefighters and eight trucks were called to the scene.
A crime scene has been established and police have launched an investigation into the circumstances surrounding how the incident occurred.

NSW Fire and Rescue Superintendent Grant Rice said the fire ignited inside a ‘hoarders premises’ and that firefighters worked to stop the blaze from spreading.
‘It’s classified as a hoarders’ premise, so they’re doing their best to make sure it doesn’t escalate and extend beyond that property,’ Superintendent Rice said.
