An Australian star sparked uproar before a ball was bowled after he was spotted refusing to sing the national anthem for the second time in days at the Cricket World Cup.

Spinner Adam Zampa was the odd man out standing alongside his Aussie teammates ahead of their must-win clash against Pakistan on Friday.

While captain Pat Cummins and his teammates proudly sang Advance Australia Fair with pride with their arms around each other, Zampa’s lips were firmly sealed.

Australian coach Andrew McDonald was also caught by television cameras standing on the boundary line with his mouth not moving.

The latest anthem saga invoving Aussie sporting stars comes after a week after NRL players Kotoni Staggs, Payne Haas and Selwyn Cobbo remained silent during national anthem before the Australian Kangaroos Test match against Samoa.

It’s understood Zampa, 31, did sing the anthem ahead Australia’s first two matches of the World Cup last week but kept his mouth shut when it was played before their third match against Sri Lanka on Monday.

McDonald was also spotted not singing the words.

The Indigenous Voice to Parliament was defeated in the referendum two days earlier.

It is not known if Zampa’s actions were in any way related to the recent referendum.

Eagled-eyed viewers back home were quick to slam Zampa.

‘Doesn’t Adam Zampa know the words to our national anthem?!! Shouldn’t be playing for Australia,’ one fan fumed.

Another posted: ‘Adam Zampa can F*#k right off. Australian Cricket should sack the bum.’

A third wrote: ‘Omg Zampa didn’t sing the anthem!!’

The media also weighed into the furore.

‘I can report that Adam Zampa is not singing the Pakistan national anthem,’ The Age’s chief sports Greg Baum tweeted.

Some fans came to Zampa’s defence after he came under fire for not singing the anthem earlier in the week.

‘Perhaps he didn’t feel like singing it because it absolutely sucks as a piece of music,’ one fan suggested.

Zampa went on to play a crucial role in Australia’s 62 run win against Pakistan on Friday by snaring four wickets.
