English cricket legend Ian Botham was rescued from shark and croc-infested waters by fellow cricketing icon Merv Hughes in the Northern Territory, Botham said in an Instagram post.

The 68-year-old reportedly tripped over a rope while on a fishing boat last week.

Far from their feuding ashes heydey, Botham and Hughes were on a four-day Barramundi fishing trip when the Englishman fell.

“My catch of the day was the barra while I was nearly catch of the day for all the crocs and bull sharks… thanks boys for getting me out,” Botham said on Instagram.

It is understood Botham’s thongs became caught in some rope while he was transferring to another boat.

He sustained severe bruising on his side and fell into the water.

Hughes helped him out of the water along with some other fishermen who were there.
