A couple who had their house burgled in broad daylight are pleading for people to help find their dog who ‘just got scared and ran away’ from the invaders.

Josh O’Brien called into Neil MItchell’s show on Melbourne radio station 3AW on Thursday to issue a desperate request for help after their apricot toy cavoodle was seen by neighbours roaming Carroll Street in Melbourne’s west on Wednesday.

According to Mr O’Brien, the burglars broke into his Deer Park house roughly between 1-1:30 in the afternoon while he and his partner, Maggie Amber, were working, stealing around $6,000 worth of valuables and sentimental treasures.

When Ms Amber returned to the home at 8pm she immediately called him and explained that their jewelry, passports and their dog Ron were gone.

Though the house was ‘tipped upside down’, the couple’s main priority is locating the missing pet.

‘Our dog is missing, we found out that he wasn’t stolen because a few of our neighbours actually saw him in the street around two o’clock which means that they probably robbed the joint at about one,’ Mr O’Brien told 3AW.

‘He’s very friendly, if he sees anyone he’s just going to come up and give you a snuggle to be honest.

‘If you see him, just say Ron and give him a quick whistle and he’ll come over to you straight away’.

Veteran broadcaster Mitchell said he doesn’t usually broadcast missing dog cases ‘because there are millions of them’, but changed his tune after hearing about the robbery.

When the host asked how many valuables had been stolen and how the criminals had broken in, Mr O’Brien briefly explained the situation before switching the focus back to his missing dog.

‘It was a lot of sentimental things… so my partner’sdad’s gold ring, a few watches – probably close to around six-to-seven thousand dollars and that’s not even the dog included,’ Mr O’Brien said.

‘But we don’t really care about that stuff, it’s mainly the dog we kind of want to find to be honest.

‘So I’ve got the next few days off work and have just put posters up and all over social media.’

Mr O’Brien said the burglars kicked open the back fence before using pliers to break open the back door.

The couple have been uploading posts online and plastering posters across Deer Park and Caroline Springs for locals to be on the lookout for the missing pup

Mr O’Brien said he and his partner both works hard jobs, with Ms Amber being a veterinary nurse.

‘My partner has been through some really really rough stuff and that dog was kind of a therapy dog.

‘If we get home from work and we’re having a bad day, he makes our day.’

Ron was last seen wandering Carroll Street near Bunnings in Caroline Springs.

Anyone who has seen the cavoodle has been asked to contact Mr O’Brien on Facebook as soon as possible.

Daily Mail Australia has contacted Victorian Police for more information on the burglary.
