A jail footy match involving convicted rapist and former NRL star Jarryd Hayne ended in horror when a player collapsed and stopped breathing on the pitch.
Hayne was among a group of 20 inmates at Geoffrey Pearce Correctional Centre playing touch football on a sunny afternoon in late May when a prisoner suddenly collapsed.
Dramatic footage of the emergency, first obtained by the Daily Telegraph, shows Hayne and other prisoners rushing to the man’s aid.
Prison staff sprint across the field to place the stricken man in the recovery position as an ambulance turns up at the oval around half an hour later.

The prisoner suffered a heart attack but was saved thanks to the quick thinking of those first on the scene.
Acting Governor Renee Craft said: ‘The inmate appeared to be going in and out of consciousness, they attempted to cool his body temperature and began performing CPR when he stopped breathing.’
‘They put their first aid training to immediate use to help save this man’s life — their quick, calm thinking ensured this incident didn’t end in tragedy.’
