New Zealand police are concerned about an Australian tourist who may be on the country’s South Island.

Elizabeth Wielga is believed to have checked out of her accommodation in Tongariro on the North Island last Friday and was due to fly out of Auckland later that day.

“Her family and police are concerned for her welfare and want to establish that she’s safe,” local police said in a statement.

“Ms Wielga does not have a phone or computer.

“It’s possible she doesn’t realise police are trying to locate her.”
