It’s beginning to feel a lot like Christmas but not because the weather is heating up.

If you were hoping for a warm and sunny few days over Christmas you might be disappointed, unless you live in Perth or Darwin.

We have checked the Bureau of Meteorology’s latest weather predictions for each capital and nearly all cities are expected to be cooler and wetter than first predicted.

Here is what the bureau is predicting the weather will be in each capital city on Christmas Eve, Christmas Day and Boxing Day.

Christmas Eve in Sydney is expected to be 27 degrees, with cloudy conditions.

There will be a “high chance of showers” in the afternoon for Sydney on Christmas Day, and a chance of a thunderstorm.

A top of 29 degrees is expected.

“An onshore wind looks to bring partly or mostly cloudy conditions to much of coastal New South Wales, including Sydney, with some showers likely and some storms possible,” BoM said.

Boxing Day will be a warm and partly cloudy 31 degrees. There is a medium chance of showers.

Christmas Eve will be a partly cloudy 29 degrees, with a “very high chance of showers” and the chances of a thunderstorm in the afternoon.

Brisbane is set to be 33 on Christmas Day and 33 on Boxing Day.

The conditions are expected to be the same as December 24.

For the rest of Queensland, the bureau is predicting showers and thunderstorms for much of Central and North Queensland.

Christmas Eve in Melbourne is due to be 22, cloudy with a high chance of showers in the afternoon.

Christmas Day has a “very high chance of showers” and possible a thunderstorm in the afternoon, with a top of 23 degrees.

“Hobart and Melbourne will both be subject to southeasterly winds, bringing areas of cloud and cooler-than-average temperatures,” BoM said for the Christmas Day forecast.

“Showers remain possible, especially in the morning, but hopefully clearing to brighter and drier conditions in the afternoon.”

Boxing Day will be partly cloudy at 25 degrees, with a high chance of showers.

Canberra, Australian Capital Territory

Canberra will have a cool and wet festive period, similar to Sydney’s

Christmas Eve is expected to be 23 with a “very high chance of showers” in the afternoon and evening, as well as a possible thunderstorm.

Adelaide, South Australia

Adelaide will be 27 degrees and partly cloudy on both Christmas Eve.

Christmas Day is expected to reach 21 degrees with a medium chance of showers.

“Adelaide should see some sunshine this Christmas day, but an early southeast wind could mean a cool and cloudy start for Christmas morning,” BoM said.

Boxing Day is expected to be slightly cloudy and 22 degrees.

Christmas Eve is expected to reach a sunny 35 degrees in Perth, with Christmas Day a slightly cooler 33 degrees and sunny.

“A low-pressure system is brewing for inland Western Australia,” BoM said.

“At the current time, it looks to be sufficiently far away from Perth, although some showers and storms over the interior look likely.

“This is another area to watch closely.

“Some afternoon showers and storms are likely across northern Western Australia, but at this stage they look to be sparsely spread with plenty of fine weather in the mix too.”

Boxing Day is expected to be 25 degrees and partly cloudy.

A cloudy Christmas Eve will bring temperatures of 21 degrees, wiht a medium chance of showers.

Christmas Day will see more clouds and a slight chance of a shower at 21 degrees.

Boxing Day will bring cloudy conditions and 21 degrees, with a medium chance of rain.

Hobart and Melbourne are expected to experience similar weather.

Darwin, Northern Territory

A humid Christmas Eve will see temperatures of 35 degrees, with a slight chance of showers and afternoon thunderstorms.

Christmas Day and Boxing Day will reach an overcast 35 degrees with afternoon thunderstorms possible.

“The Northern Territory can expect some seasonal afternoon showers and storms around Darwin, although the risk of any Christmas impacts due to the remnants of Ex-Tropical Cyclone Jasper look very unlikely,” BoM said.
