Residents near the Grampians mountain range, north-east of Melbourne, have been told to leave on Christmas Day, as a major bushfire continues to burn.

An emergency warning was issued for the towns of Moyston and Pomonal this afternoon due to the out-of-control blaze near Yarram Gap Road.

“Emergency services may not be able to help you if you decide to stay.”

The bushfire, which started a week ago, is heading from Grampians National Park in a southerly direction towards Redman Road and Long Gully Road.

The Country Fire Authority warned property adjoining the national park could be hit in the next two hours, south of the Pomonal 2024 fire area.

The Grampians National Park has been battling fires for days, losing millions in tourist money during the summer holidays.

A camp was set up for emergency workers giving up Christmas to battle the dangerous fire.
