Christina Hall‘s last Mother’s Day is not something she would probably want for her worst enemy!
The television personality spent most of last year battling it out in court with her ex-husband, Ant Anstead, over the custody of their son, Hudson London Anstead. The former lovebirds finally consented to “continue to have joint legal and joint physical custody” in December 2022, as they had initially done in June 2021. The duo, who split in 2020 and finalized their divorce in 2021, agreed on a holiday schedule with “exceptions” to their original arrangement.
Christina Hall Recalled The Hectic Experience That Followed Her ‘Unnecessary’ Custody Battle With Ant Anstead
To celebrate this year’s Mother’s Day, Hall opted to reflect on the “unnecessary” drama that she and Anstead were involved in 2022. To that end, the former “Flip or Flop” star shared a sweet selfie of herself and her three kids — Hudson, Taylor, and Brayden, alongside a lengthy caption with nearly two million followers.
Beginning the write-up, she wrote that it was “crazy how much life can change in a year,” noting that she “was in a terrible place” last Mother’s Day. “Going through an extremely unnecessary custody battle, family issues, dealing with a health scare- amongst other things. During all this, we were momentarily displaced and in the process of moving into a temporary rental,” the mom-of-three continued.
The HGTV star then expressed how emotional she got when she saw that the owner of their rental property had left her an “amazing care package” that included “gifts for the kids, my fav champagne, and a sweet note.”
In her words, she had “started crying” when she saw the package on the kitchen island and promptly escaped to the “first room I saw (the laundry room)” to avoid “upsetting” anybody else.
During a later conversation with the landlord, Hall learned that the latter “understood” what she was going through because she had had similar experiences. The “Buddy vs. Duff” special guest stated that “it felt so good” to chat with someone who could relate to her pain, adding:
“When I think of this now it still makes my eyes water. What a gift from God that moment was. No one I knew could understand what I was going through so to meet someone who got it and who could talk me through it truly was life changing.”

Luckily, things began turning around for the “Christina: Stronger by Design” host, who concluded, “Happy Mother’s Day, no matter where you are in life or what’s happening, stay positive- It can all change in a year!”
As expected, Hall’s fans used the comment section to drop encouraging anecdotes and appreciate her vulnerability, with this netizen writing, “Thank you for sharing! Nobody talks about how difficult custody situations can be and the toll it takes!”
“You truly deserve the best, and I’m so thankful that we get to tackle this life thing together,” a second person commented, and a third declared, “You are a great mum and an inspiration to many working mums out there.”
The “Brother vs. Brother” judge’s fans had previously come to her defense after her ex-husband labeled her a “bad mom” during their custody battle last year. The Blast reported in April 2022 that the English television presenter claimed in his lawsuit that his ex-wife had created a “dangerous environment” for their son while using him as a social media puppet.
He further alleged that his ex was an absent parent who had only spent an average of “9 full days each month” over 20 months with their three-year-old boy.
Hall & Anstead Reach Agreement After ‘Unnecessary Custody Battle’
As mentioned above, Hall and Anstead reached an agreement in December with a few changes to the holiday schedule. According to docs obtained by The Blast, the ruling read:
“For Thanksgiving, Hudson will be with his mother for even-numbered years and with his dad on odd-numbered years from Wednesday before Thanksgiving to the following Monday. For Christmas, he would stay with Anstead on odd years — 23rd to 25th — plus a week of vacation during his school break as long as Hall was provided a written note for the planned vacation on or before December 1 of the year and vice versa.”
The couple was expected to maintain the same pattern for other holidays like Easter Sunday and Halloween — even years for the car builder and odd years for the “Christina in the Country” star — and then switch for the 4th of July. Thanks to the settlement, the case did not get to trial, whose dates were set for this year’s March.
