$40m was up for grabs in Thursday night's Powerball draw

Millions of Aussies are scrambling to find their tickets in the hope of a lifechanging windfall following Thursday night’s Powerball $40million draw.

The winning numbers for Powerball draw 1498 were 29, 32, 17, 27, 9, 11 and 12.  The Powerball was 18.

If the division one jackpot does go off, it will be the second time this year after a Melbourne dad pocketed a $20m Powerball windfall earlier this month.

‘I only buy a Powerball ticket from time to time,’ he told The Lott officials earlier this month.

‘This has come at a great time for me and my family. It’s a great blessing.

‘It’s such a big prize. It means I can pay off the mortgage and help my family.

‘My wife and children have always said we never go on holidays, and I’d love to take them to Europe!’

The Lott recorded 422 division one winners in 2024, including 19 Powerball entries which pocketed more than $758 million in prize money.

During this time, Powerball offered a $200m jackpot, the biggest in Australian history, and an Adelaide man who won $150m became the nation’s biggest individual lottery winner.

Of the 19 Powerball division one winning entries in 2024, eight were from NSW, six in Victoria, three in Queensland and one each in South Australia and Western Australia.

The next Powerball jackpot will be held on February 6.
