The NFL’s funniest social media team is at it again.
Chargers fans had plenty to celebrate on Wednesday as the team officially announced the hiring of Jim Harbaugh as their next head coach and the Los Angeles team’s social media team was at the forefront of the celebration online.
Before the team even announced the hiring, the Chargers account on X was having fun.
Following multiple reporters that Harbaugh had agreed to terms on a deal, the Chargers posted a GIF of white smoke billowing from a chimney atop the Sistine Chapel, which is used to signify a new Pope has been elected.
A Chargers logo had been placed on the chimney as part of the GIF that was posted.
The shenanigans continued as the team changed its profile picture on X to a meme of Harbaugh and captioned a post of it, “#NewProfilePic.”
Another post utilized a popular meme of rapper Drake crying and saying “It’s just been a long fight and I just have to have a warrior spirit. And that’s all.”
Superimposed in the background is the post on X announcing that Harbaugh had been hired by the Chargers.
The clever posts on social media even led NFL insider Ian Rapoport to post on his X account: “Can’t wait for Jim Harbaugh vs @chargers social. An epic battle looms.”
The news itself has Chargers fans elated.
“The most positive Chargers replies I’ve ever seen,” one fan posted with a crying laughing emoji. “Let’s go!!!”
“I’m jumping back on the train because of him. Spanos, don’t mess it up,” another jubilant fan commented.
The Chargers inked Harbaugh to a five-year deal, according to ESPN’s Adam Schefter.
“This organization is putting in the work — investing capital, building infrastructure and doing everything within its power to win. Great effort equals great results, and we’re just getting started,” Harbaugh said in a statement.
