Celebrity sexologist Chantelle Otten revealed the three biggest problems couples face in the bedroom.

Ms Otten, the partner of disability advocate and former Australian of the Year Dylan Alcott, told The Morning Show that the main issues she deals with during sessions with her clients are ‘orgasm difficulties’, ‘desire discrepancies’, and the affect of stress on sex.

She said these things are ‘constantly raised’ by couples she meets in consultations.

Speaking to co-hosts Kylie Gillies and Larry Emdur, Chantelle said couples are often ‘too stressed to have sex’ and end up losing interest due to external pressures.

‘I guess after Covid we feel like we are kind of in a rat race and now the economy is changing, too. You can see the impact it is having,’ she explained.

‘The mental health crisis after Covid as well has [had] a very big impact on people’s sex lives,’ she added.

Chantelle went on to say that ‘pain, communication difficulties and [a lack of] sex education in general’ contribute to sexual issues for couples.

She noted that experiencing pain during sex can feel ‘quite shameful’, but shouldn’t be because this affects one in five women

Chantelle said the most important thing for individuals is to work on themselves in order to have a healthy and functional sex life with others

‘In couples therapy I think it’s very hard to look inwards,’ she said.

‘We take things personally a lot, but at the end of the day people realise we cannot change our partners, we can only change ourselves,’ she added.

She concluded by saying sex therapy isn’t just for couples with difficulties, but can also be about people looking for ways to be more adventurous in bed

‘It can be when you’re curious, when you want to have more fun,’ Chantelle said.

‘It’s not all about problems. It can be about finding more pleasure or trying some new toys or expanding your relationship dynamics.’
