The Country Fire Service (CFA) has advised those heading to the Pitch Music and Arts Festival due to the extreme weather forecast.

The Bureau of Meteorology is forecasting extreme fire danger for Victoria and parts of South Australia today.

Melbourne is predicted to hit a windy 39 degrees while Adelaide is expecting a top of 40 degrees.

The festival is due to take place in Mafeking near Halls Gap in Victoria, where the temperature is predicted to climb into the low 40s.

CFA Chief Officer Jason Heffernan said communities should be aware of the fire danger in the areas they were traveling to this long weekend and remain informed.

“We’re expecting 40km/h northwesterly winds across the south west in the morning with gusts of 50km/hr in the afternoon before a southwesterly change later in the day,” Heffernan said.

“The central district will see northerly winds of up to 45km/h and gusts of 80km/h in the central ranges.”

A total fire ban is in place.

Pitch Music and Arts Festival posted specific advice for festivalgoers on their Instagram.

“The CFA recommends that the safest option for those who are already on site is to leave the site tonight or early in the morning,” Pitch Music and Arts said on social media.

“The CFA advises the fire danger rating is extreme which recommends you reconsider travel through bushfire risk areas and that leaving bushfire risk areas early in the day is your safest option because fires will spread quickly and be extremely dangerous.

“If you are arriving on Saturday we recommend delaying your arrival until further notice.”

The festival said some music programming could be rescheduled but it has not cancelled the event.

No active bushfires are burning in Victoria and South Australia.
