The Celtics own the best record in the NBA, and a significant portion of information behind first-year head coach Joe Mazzulla’s success leaked out earlier this week.
A large collection of Mazzulla’s scouting reports of various NBA players from what appeared to be his Quizlet account were randomly discovered by a Twitter user and posted to Reddit.
“Quizlet is a great resource for retaining information,” Mazzulla joked when asked about it on Friday, according to The Athletic.
A Twitter user with the handle @groovyk8 posted Thursday they had “accidentally” come across Mazzulla’s scouting notes on hundreds of opposing of NBA players on Quizlet, a website aimed to help students create interactive study tools.

“Was trying to memorize all the Phoenix Suns players so I could talk shop with my bf and accidentally found Joe Mazzulla’s’s Quizlet account,” the user tweeted. “Is this the secret to the Celtics’ success?”
One example cited Mazzulla’s scouting report on Suns guard Chris Paul in which he wrote: “Early mid pnr’s in transition. Alert to 3 for 2 and 2 for 1 situations. Must keep him directed. Will snake on pnr. Make sure we chase and challenge on east west snakes. Will mouse it make sure we inch out.”
Mazzulla’s alleged account has since been deleted, but not before many of the scouting reports were archived by a Reddit user.
In his first-year since replacing suspended Ime Udoka, the 34-year-old Mazzulla has led the Celtics to a NBA-best 22-8 record through Friday’s loss to Orlando.
